Advertising and Public relations are commonly confused with each other, although they are very separate industries. The main difference is the style of writing. In public relations, the writing style is very formal and straight to the point. In advertising there is more room for creativity. Phrases such as “buy now!” is often used when advertising a product. Another difference is that unlike public relations, the company pays to receive airtime or ad space. While in the public relations industry your job is to get free publicity for the company. The similarity between these to industries is that both are designed to bring awareness to the company in a positive light. Public relations is also less expensive. Advertising requires money to get the brand out on television, radio, billboards, and online. The similarity is that they both try to reach out to as many people as possible to spread their own message or product.
